Recollections of Adaline Manfull

Written by Paul E. Brown - 1995

Eli and Adaline Manfull lived in the square where the post office is now located.  The post office annex was not on the house when Eli and Ad lived there.  He was a retired farmer and I thought he was very, very rich.  He wheeled Ad out on the porch on nice summer days for she was a cripple and she died when I was very young.  I never knew her but Eli I did.  He lived, and he lived and he drummed and he drummed (not on a drum but on a chair or a wall or anything around him) and he always had a warm spot in his heart for women no matter how old he got.  The couple was Ollie Thompson's parents. Substantial citizens of Augusta.
