JOHN CAMPBELL KINSEY
IN MEMORIAM

On Thursday evening, June 20th, John C. Kinsey, eldest son of Thomas and Christena Kinsey, died at his home in Augusta, after a lingering illness, aged 20 yrs. 3 mo and 12 days.  The deceased was a young man esteemed and loved by all who knew him; taken in the bloom of youth, long ere the summit of life’s journey had been reached; called to lay aside life’s burden just as a useful life was dawning.  He leaves a weeping concourse of friends, who knew him but to love him, and by his death our community lost one of its most highly respected and promising young men.  His life throughout was one example of morality, goodness and virtue.

His mortal remains are in the tomb but thoughts of his noble character will linger always.  (Mr. Gans, our clothing merchant, has raised Johnny ever since he was thirteen years of age and he was to them as a child.)  He united with the Presbyterian church, of this place, about seven years ago and from the beginning of his Christian life onward, he never wavered in faith or faltered in action.  He realized before he died that he must soon pass over the river, and often expressed a willingness and a desire to end the earth life to enter into his rest.  He died in full assurance of faith and confident of a heavenly home.

Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
From which none ever wakes to weep,
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.

Asleep in Jesus, far from thee,
Thy kindred and their graves may be,
But thine is still a blessed sleep
From which none ever wakes to weep.

Funeral services took place at the Presbyterian church Saturday at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Donnel, of Minerva.  His body was conveyed to the Augusta cemetery followed by many sorrowful friends where his remains were laid quietly to rest.

A Friend.
