Recollections of Lila Johnson

Written by Paul E. Brown - 1995

Lila Johnson - a rather distant woman who lived in a house just south of the old stone post office (that is, the former post office) on the square in Augusta.  The house that she lived in has since burned down and there is only an empty space there now.

She was, I believe, a widow, as she had a son, Albert Johnson, who when over at Leatherberry's Store and going home would commonly take the "shortcut" home by going through our side door on the east side of our dining room and go out the rear door, through our back yard and over to his home.  Of course we knew Albert pretty well, but not Lila.

If I remember right Lila had a boy friend, "Huse" Dennis which might have been Huston Dennis to begin with.
