DR. CRAWFORD PASSES AWAY EARLY TODAY
Well Known Doctor Diagnosed Own Case As Cerebral Hemorrhage
Dr. L. A. Crawford, 69, one of the most prominent
physicians in Alliance, died at his home, 668 South Arch avenue, at
12:15 a. m. Monday from a cerebral hemorrhage.
While calling on a patient on Burt avenue early last Thursday
evening, Dr. Crawford was stricken. When taken to his home, he
remarked to his wife, "I have diagnosed my own case: it is cerebral
hemorrhage." He added, "It is the beginning of the end."
Dr. Crawford had suffered a breakdown six years ago but up until
about a month ago had been in good health.
Born in East Township, Carroll county November 3, 1861, he gained
his early education in the county schools of that vicinity. He
was graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, Md., in
1892. He was married to Ada Jane Rutledge of Augusta March 30,
1892 in Cleveland. He started practicing medicine in Hopedale
where he spent 12 years before coming to Alliance. He
practiced in Alliance for 26 years. He was a son of the late
John T., and Hannah Crawford.
Dr. Crawford was a former member of the Alliance school board, and
was also a member of the Stark County Medical society and served on
the staff at the Alliance City hospital. He was a member of
the First Presbyterian church and J. E. McFadden Lodge No. 697, F.
and A. M.
Dr. Crawford was instrumental in influencing a number of his younger
friends to take up the medical profession. He and his wife had
spent the last ten winters in their winter home in Safety Harbor,
Fla.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Guittard
and a granddaughter, Jane Elizabeth Guittard at home, and a sister,
Mrs. Ezra Williard of Carrollton. A son, John Howard, preceded
him in death in 1904 Today would have been his birthday.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday at the home on
South Arch avenue and at 2:30 p. m. in the Christian church at
Augusta. Burial will be made in Augusta cemetery.
Friends may call at the home from 7-9 p. m. Tuesday.
